Exchanging your Drivers License in the Netherlands

Try to exchange your drivers license as soon as you can when you arrive. It appears you can still do it a year after arrival in the NAetherlands however, to avoid stories that touch, do it as soon as you are able to.

As far as we know, the process is simple. You get an appointment at your Gemeente and you will fill the certificate of fitness form online from the CBR. You can access the form HERE. The form has a fee attached to it and after submitting the form, you go to the Gemeente on the day of your appointment with your passport ID, your RP, your proof of 30% ruling, passport photo and your old Driver’s license. You will pay a fee for the exchange and some data will be collected from you. then your old driver’s license will be taken for the exchange. After a couple of weeks, you will get a notification from the RDW on the status of the processing and if all goes well, you should have your new drivers license with you in a couple of months.
