WHAT IS STAP BUDGET?
STAP budget stands for Simulating Label Market Position.
It is a subsidy scheme that provides partial funding, up to a maximum of 1000 euros, for training programs or courses at the secondary, higher, professional, or university level in approved tertiary institution.
Who are the approved tertiary institutions?
These institutions are approved by “DUO,” which is an agency providing financial assistance to eligible students, citizens, and others. To be eligible for STAP Budget, a tertiary institution must be approved by “DUO.”
In order to qualify for STAP, you must be enrolled in a course that is approved by “DUO.”
Funding Limit
The maximum funding provided per person for the STAP budget is 1000 euros, and its implementation is commonly handled by “UWV,” which are employee insurance agents responsible for work-related matters in the Netherlands.
Availability Frequency
The availability of a new budget typically occurs every two months. The application grant in each institution operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and applications must be submitted during the designated period.
Eligibility
To be eligible for STAP, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must be between the ages of 18 and the retirement age.
- You must be a citizen of the EU or a partner to the EU, and you must have been part of the Dutch National Insurance scheme for at least six months in the past two years.
- At the time of application, you must not be receiving any other financial assistance from the government for study costs.
- The course and institution you are enrolled in must be listed in the approved institution and courses for the STAP budget.
- Beneficiaries are limited to one application per year; you will need to wait for the next year’s window to reapply.
- Upon receiving the benefit, there is a requirement of attending at least 80% of the classes, otherwise, you may be required to pay back the grant.
Process Cycle
To verify eligible institutions and courses, you can visit the “subbudget.nl” portal. This portal provides a comprehensive list of approved courses and institutions.
The process for enrolling is as follows:
- Complete the registration for the desired training program.
- Obtain the STAP registration confirmation.
- Submit the application for STAP budget through the UWV portal.
- Await the decision of status, which will be communicated through uwv.stapuwv.nl (within a maximum of 4 weeks).
- Once approved, the budget will be paid directly to the institution.
